Product Review : Sunsilk Co-creations Damage Reconstruction Shampoo

Hi lovely boys and girls..!

I have a product to review today.
As we all know, i'm on the hunt for the perfect clarifying shampoo. What is a clarifying shampoo? It is a shampoo that is meant to strip the hair of all build up and dirt. They are made with sulfates (which are also surfactants) and create that lovely foam and lather we all like. Clarifying shampoos tend to be drying to the hair because they strip the strand and scalp of all the dirt and natural oils. Now because of this, it is advisable to use them just once a month or when you have a lot of dirt and product build up. Some may use them twice a month or more. To counteract the drying effects, it's best to use them diluted with water, water and oil, or oil. If the shampoo contains the ingredients sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate or ammonium laureth sulfate, your shampoo is clarifying.

Ok, so my younger sister was going on about how this shampoo is the business and what-not, and I didn't pay particular attention to her. But maaaan am I glad I did this time around. So let's get into it.

It was purchased at Pick 'n Pay for N$ 27. 50 (about US $2.75). Available at Pick 'n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Clicks, Woerman Brock, Medicine World, and practically all supermarkets and  some pharmacies. This is the 200 ml bottle. The 400 ml bottle is also available and is roughly 40 dollars.

This shampoo is part of their co-creations range, which teams up with celebrity hairdressers and hair experts to create fabulous products for hair care. This one is made in collaboration with Thomas Taw, a British celebrity hairdresser know for working wonders on damaged hair.

My thoughts

The shampoo has a thick consistency which I love, because you don't have to use a lot. It lathers like a dream and has a shampoo-y floral scent which is light, but lingers after washing. I had conditioned with the dark and lovely amla dc which smells a little like mens cologne with one use. The other time I used it, I had the avocado and tresemme mix. And even after applying my leave ins and oils, the scent was still there. I like it because although it lingers, it is not overpowering. Very nice to use if you have experimented with some not too nice smelling products. Now to the part I looooove most about it. It does NOT strip my hair or make it feel dry after use. I used it diluted on one occasion and straight from the bottle too, I even lathered twice with it and my hair still felt moisturised.

I love this and see it becoming my staple clarifying shampoo.

What is your favourite sulfate shampoo?

  1. When I want to get my hair really clean, I use the V05 clarifying shampoo. It lathers really well and I like the scent. However, usually when I condition, the conditioner smell overpowers any scent from the shampoo. I'm not sure I've heard of the Sunsilk brand before. Nice review.
