Hi Doves!

Braid with Me! My Easy Braids Regimen

Hi Doves!

Been way too long! From my last post, I blogged about experiencing a length stall. So I decided to get serious about protective styling for length retention. This in turn has birthed a new series  for protective styling with me.

What to expect in this series
  • my regimen for protective styles
  • how to navigate common pitfalls that can make protective styling detrimental to your hair
  • tips and tricks for braids, weaves, cornrows and wigs

This month i'm in senegalese twist. Currently on week 5 with them and I plan to take them down this weekend.

Senegalese twists and multivite

Hey all..

Interesting header right?
Well I got some twists done to protect my hair. I feel between the wigging and flat twists and twists with my own hair i've been manipulating my hair too much. I have also been battling some split ends and want to minimise further splits. So i'll be in braids for the upcoming months. I prepped for these twists by washing with sunsilk shampoo and dc-ing with ors replenishing conditioner. This was my first salon visit since April, so I had to blow dry my hair to prepare it for the plaiting. These took about three hours to do. I had three ladies working on them, and then later two. I decided to go for this maroonish red colour for variety...so loving it!

Now in one of the hair chat groups i'm in, two of the ladies have been mixing their diy braid sprays with crushed multivite and got some good growth. So im testing it out to see if it works.

Wash Day: Braids Edition

Hey hey. This is was how my wash day went down last week Sunday (3 August). Seeing as I had braids, I  decided not to fuss too much about it. I had washed it the previous week as well, but it was nothing to write home about. So here we go.

1. Pre-shampooed for 1 hour with olive oil
2. Shampooed with ORS Invigorating Shampoo

The Hair Situ..

Hi doves! How are we today?

This is a hair journey and there are ups and downs.

Well today i'm sharing one of my downs. Some time in march I got some lovely soft dreads/ nubians. I had the hairdresser cornrow my hair, then sew them on. Kind of like crotchet braids. As hair gets longer, the ends need to be protected because they are the oldest and most fragile part of the strand. Usually most people just have the first one to two inches of hair braided then the rest blends in with the synthetic hair when they get soft dreads. It causes a lot of breakage, thats why I have mine done as if im being weaved.

Anyway take down day came along and I asked my sis to help me remove the hair. She used a razor blade to cut the thread and accidentally cut some of my hair *sniff sniff* so now I have a patch of hair that is about 4 to 5 inches short (when stretched) around the front of my hair. I was pretty upset, but ey, these things happen.

Jumbo Braids

Hi my Doves :-)

I got tired of the wigging and decided on some braids for a few weeks. Im still salon phobic for now, so cousin did them for me. I didn't have to blow my hair out, I just detangled and stretched it with thread. I think i'll keep them in for three weeks because they are so big. Anyhoo we'll see how long they last.
